Canciones y Cantantes Favoritos

A blogbuddy at "Mexico or Bust" posted videos of some of her favorite Spanish songs today. Wow! she even understands the lyrics! I'm just beginning to discover songs with the help of my maestra Lolita and we sing about ten of them in dos voces (two-part harmony).

"Sol Que Tu Eres" is a song I'm learning to play, sooooo easy with three chords, nice and slow, very sad and beautiful. Recording is by Grupo Urtica, video is entirely unrelated to what the song's about, which is the struggles of the campesinos, but makes me nostalgic for the boat.

Here's Los Mocedades (on TV), who have been around for decades...their harmonies sometimes take my breath away. I would LOVE to sing with a big group like that. This song is "Quien Te Cantara?"

One of my favorite male singers is Ruben Blades, who's actually Puerto Rican. Here's "Tiburon" (shark). Another one I love to listen to is "Jiri Son Bali" which features an African singing group, but I've been unable to obtain a video of it.

Oh Bliss you just made my day... I'm sitting out her on the deck in the dark listening to that first song over and over.... I have been in love with hispanic music for as long as I can remember. Growing up in West Texas, listening to the music coming from Fiestas blocks away from our house. I think the music is what prompted me to learn the language.

Don't you just LOVE Ruben. He's awesome... I listen to lots of Cuban and Puerto Rican music, I work with several PRs and a Cuban.

LOVE IT! Keep it coming.

Jomamma - Mi amiga Ale sent me a list of other songs and cantantes to check out, I'm going to sample them over the next couple of days, like little treats. Her list appears under my post about the 1962 Honda drivers' manual yesterday.

You grew up in West Texas? I grew up in South Texas. We didn't hear fiestas in our neighborhood, though, que lastima.

Definitely, the music is useful in learning the language, and besides you get curious what they're singing about, besides "alma" and "corazon."

I like to do what I call Salina aerobics. That's when you put a Salina CD on and just move to the beat... talk about cardio!

Keep the canciones coming. I won't be going to Spanish class this fall semester. Too much on the plate. I'll just have to study on my own and hope to get back in a class in the spring.
adios!

Okay, don't know what any of that means, but that's a cool first song. It was like I was on vacation all of a sudden...

Just popping in to say I've shut down me blog. Evil roar. It was getting too much for me to juggle along with the emotional rollercoaster I'm suffering from right now called love. I'm okay. Just taking a break because there was quite a bit of pressure there to keep blogging for those who had been reading for years and well, I need a break. I'll be reading your blog and commenting still though. You have been warned.
