Don't mind me, I'm just a log
Floating in this murky bog
I wouldn't even hurt a frog
And I love yappy little dogs
Check out their blog for a road warrior's viewpoint of traveling in mexico. They've caravanned with other Westies but for the most part have struck out on their own.
Carmen's is directly across the road from a more-or-less fenced-in swamp area where reside any number of crocodiles. Rita told me small dogs are especially at risk in La Manzanilla; in fact, six of them were dinner for the crocs last year. I looked around for our leashes and counted dogs when I heard that.
Driving toward their campsite I saw in the swamp a whole pile of crocs taking the sun. They seem to like getting cozy, just as dogs do. Then I spotted another huge one outside the fenced area lounging only a few yards from the road, where unsuspecting tourists were wandering by. (Gulp!)

When I first saw the crocs at La Manzanilla, I was amazed at how close they are to the public. This is one of my favorite posts: http://steveinmexico.blogspot.com/2008/05/no-free-lunch.html When people are at the tables, the juxtaposition is even more jarring.
Yikes! That's worse then my scorpion story by a mile!
Eek.
My friends saw a yellow lab get grabbed by a croc over in Bocas de Iguana...
Glad you put your dogs on a leash. There are some pretty big crocs in that little lagoon aren't there?!!?
Yes anything with a mouth like that should be respected.
Steve - The croc in your picture was only about 20 yards from where the croc was in my picture! That fence is a joke, it's all bent down to ankle height at one spot. La Manzanilla is definitely not a place I'd go wandering in by myself at night, never mind the ladrones!
They do seem to love dogs, my uncle helped re-populate Southwest Louisiana with No. American alligators back in the 60s. He had quiet a few three legged dogs at his house. The only reason these dogs survived was because they had gone up against the juvenile gators and not the adults.
I'm assuming they don't have much camping on the beach there.
