I can't say I wasn't warned. I looked up Lyrica, the drug I was prescribed to deal with the nerve pain from shingles, and found a common side effect to be "dizziness and somnolence." Add to that the worst dry eye ever. The dizziness went away after the first couple of days, but the somnolence continues.
All I really want to do is sleep. I get up, have coffee and breakfast, clean up the kitchen, take a nap. Check my email and read friends' blogs, make a to-do list, and take a nap. Have lunch and do the dishes, take a nap. Look at my to-do list, take a nap. The prescription indicates I should take Lyrica for three months, and I wonder how I'll manage to function in between all those naps! I've always been a nap fiend, but this is ridiculous!
I guess I just should be grateful I don't have a job to go to; I'd be a big disappointment to the boss.
News flash: The Capt is trying to get home from Barra de Navidad. The VW Westfalia developed a nasty oil-spewing habit just north of Puerto Vallarta, and our intrepid skipper, with the help of extra quarts of oil, limped to a deserted RV park in San Blas where he is attempting to fix it himself, having wisely brought his tool kit. The diagnosis is a busted gasket on the oil pump, which is unfortunately under the motor. Tune in for further developments.

Bliss,
Be careful with the medicines. I had a very bad case of shingles that followed an old surgical scar. I started with the medicines but abandoned them after I discovered that they were making me into a zombie. I had to keep working during this time so I just stuck to aspirin which seemed to work okay.
I don't need any drugs to appreciate a good nap. Now that you mention the topic, I think I will have one. Give my best to The Captain when you talk with him.
I like an occasional nap and I hate car problems.
My truck died and will not start. I have yet to find anyone to fix it - two weeks later and 5 or 6 heads under the hood - nothing ugh!
At least they know what the problem is - electronics and cars a dangerous mix.
Oh no - shingles... ick. Jim had those once - horrible. So sorry. Hope you can stay awake enough to get over them :) !
Bob - If I were trying to do a job, I would wean myself off Lyrica now, but the nerve pain is still pretty bad.
Steve - I've been trying to figure out how much of this is just my natural affinity for napping, and how much is the drug.
John - I'm so sorry about the truck. I hope you have other options for getting around until the problem's solved.
Meerkat - Maybe the idea is that I'm supposed to sleep through them. Kids and dogs always do that, and it seems to work fine, as long as nothing is expected of them.
Lyrica. Isn´t that what they make those tight pants out of?
Put some of those duds on, and take a nap. Sweet dreams.
When the Capt returns, he´ll find a hot babe in his bed who´s wearing tight pants.
I can relate... I take Lyrica for fibro and I also get those urges to just close my eyes and nap. Of course the blurry/tired/dry eyes doesn't help!
You might see if there is a homeopathic substitute for it that doesn't have that strong a reaction.
take care!
The purple monkey will be home on Saturday.
Jim & Bliss, just getting time to check into your Blog and see there's a problem ! Hope Jim get's the oil leak fixed. I'll be watching. We got home May 10 and have got back into the swing of things here at home. Lots of Vanagons showing up for repairs so that's good & bad. Hard to get back to work after all that time off ! Hope the meds start working but I would say they are not the good way to go. Try some natural remidies is my opinon. I'll ask Rita when she come in from the hospital.
