For about a month you've probably noticed advertising on this blog. I signed up with AdSense, probably due to a recent temporary feeling of financial insecurity, self-delusion about how many viewers would be interested, and the hope that they'd pop in ads for sailing equipment and Mexican resorts, items I wouldn't really object to very much. Sometimes they actually did.
Other ads were even a little amusing, like the ones promising a pill to help you get over shyness. (I know a great commercial for tequila that promises the exact same thing.)
But today I decided to opt out of the AdSense arrangement, when an ad for Scientology appeared on my page. I hope all you Scientologists out there (Travolta, Cruise and the rest) won't feel you're victims of religious discrimination.
I'm sure there's a place for Scientology ads, but not on my page.
And for everyone else, I hope you won't miss the ads too much (lame joke).

I hate to admit it, but I didn't even see them. I jump right to your writing.
Ummm. I did not even notice they were there to begin with ...
Steve and Mommy - Hmmm, the AdSense people wouldn't be very happy about that. 8^D
Maybe they should advertise in a paper publication, like the ... hmmmm.
I didnt notice them either on your Blog, but I have on others and wondered if the Blogger agreed with the Ad. I am glad you stood for your beliefs.
I agree, I never noticed them. Maybe you should be paid by how many hits you get to your blog... in that case I'll be owing them money.
The ads are tuned out from the get-go, not a factor, now the camper stories, singing, boat capers and the friends, they all get top billing on my blog crawl.
I´m with you Bliss. I made up my mind right off the bat that I wouldn't have anything to do with advertising. How else could I be free? Also, I decided to not worry about how many people read my blog. If my Mother and Father in Heaven are the only ones who read it read it then that is okay by me. Having said that, the nice comments that people leave are an "apapacho" (a hug) and I am very appreciative :)
C&K - What I found interesting is the images Scientology was using in all their ads. They're doing a big campaign right now and all you see are closeup faces of nubile young girls and women with (pardon the expression) "blissed-out expressions." The subliminal message is the same as the beer ads: "Join up and get the chicks."
jomamma - Well, it was an experiment. I was a little curious what sort of ads they'd give me, based on my content. I don't think a human being was involved in the choices.
Norm - If you like the boating and camper stuff you should read the Capt's blogs too (Green Flash, S/V Bliss) You'll find them on my blogroll. Nice to know the singing is of interest.
Bob - My mother's still around but she wouldn't make head or tail of my writing. I like to think my dad would have enjoyed it. I'm very content with the small circle of friends I hear from often.
I was curious and I was going to ask you about that wondering if you ever made money on it. I too, think about my situation and not really contributing to our income...guess the dreams of getting rich quick on my blog aren't going to fly. Guess I'll just keep leeching off of Bruce. He doesn't seem to notice - thank God. I agree about scientology.
