Estas son Las Mañanitas...

For my birthday today, I want to share with you a traditional Mexican birthday serenade from YouTube, complete with mariachi, and sung by Chayito Valdez.

Liz - Rumor has it that AJ's Captain will be here this fall, after a little detour to Thailand.

So I've been reading. But I surely wouldn't bet my life savings. Talk about "plans in the sand at low tide" ;))
And the HI was to your Capt. not AJ's, if it wasn't clear. Also,we would like an update on the Green Flash. Very interesting stuff there !!

We have a saying for those day were we do all the things we normally won´t do, like eating lots of sugar or dancing until dawn; it´s "echar una cana al aire". So I hope you do that today. Feliz cumpleaños!

Ale - tengo que memorizar esta expresión! Pero es la palabra "caño," como "stemless beer or wine glass?" Quiero tener razón. "Cana" es "white or gray hair," como ya tengo.

I believe it is cana and could be translated as 'let your hair down'.

Happy Birthday 1st Mate. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Bliss,

My cultural heritage is Polish and in my family we always say:

"Sto lat, Niech żyje, żyje nam"..."May she live one hundred years". For short we just say "Sto lat" - "One Hundred Years" and that is what I wish for you and the Cap too! Sto lat!!!

Happy Birthday, Bliss! And as we say in Mexico...Muchos dias de estos!

Yes, it´s exactly that. To trow a grey hair to the air. It get´s lost in translation but it means "to let your hair down".
