Sonoran Paradise Island Resort from elazulestudio on Vimeo.
Someone posted this video on the local Viva San Carlos forum, and watching it, I began feeling queasy. Frightened, then angry, then disgusted. It's an architectural plan meant to excite investors, and whoever made it I suspect never actually set foot in San Carlos. Rodeo Drive-style shopping mall, a condo tower out on what looks to be Honeymoon Island with acres of dirt dredged up to enlarge it. Beltranes Blvd sweeping past miles of housing developments that look like Southern California.
For one thing, they left out images of the humungous desalinization plant that would be required to support such an endeavor. We already have serious water shortages here. It's the desert, for pity's sake!
A thundering soundtrack complete with heavenly chorus. "We will not be deterred," is the message. Local response was surprisingly blasé, with comments like "Bring it on," and "If they make this place into a resort it will mean work for lots of locals both in construction and the service industry..." and "This is a Fonatur project... this is the branch of the Government that built Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Huatulco and Manzanillo." Yikes!
One person's dream, another person's nightmare.
All I can hope is that if they're successful, it won't be in my lifetime.

"All I can hope is that if they're successful, it won't be in my lifetime." . . .funny, I've been saying that a lot lately.
Aye. I think those are the people behind Riviera Nayarit too.
Hey, how's the dog?
"Oh, brave new world, that has such people in it." We'll just have to leave it to them.
Chica is going to see a vet in Mazatlan, who says this problem is pretty common, and he thinks an adjustment might fix it. We'll go Monday afternoon and then we'll know more after that.
Gotta give them credit for ambition. However, I did not see anything written in Spanish.
FONATUR is pretty busy with the Riviera Nayarit stuff right now. Hopefully they wont have much time or money to start this project.
Well, sadly, it could be very successful since it is in such close proximity to the USA. But, I heard that Fonatur had sold all the property they had in that area due to lack of funds. We can only hope.....I also heard or read there is going to be a "large cargo" port in Guaymas with huge ships coming in. So, in my humble opinion, another pristine body of water will be ravaged.
Eeegads. Can't quite see this happening. Where would they even begin to think they could build this? Love the docks out there in the middle of nowhere - yep, those will withstand a summer hurricane season! And Chanel & Levi's? Oh brother...
I am wondering if they have a license to use the music.
License? We don't need no stinking license!
I doubt that Yanni is getting any royalties from the music bed for the video....I would wager not....
Too bad they didn't actually shoot the video on the boulevard and see the reality of how it looks now, and how it would continue to look based on marginal funding for upkeep of roads, greenery and other items.
One only has to look at vandalized emergency call boxes on the sides of roads to see fantasy vs reality.
I am a realist, often chastised for seeing the glass totally empty...jeje.
